Siegfried

Richard Wagner 1813-1883

Second day of the stage festival of Der Ring des Nibelungen (1871)

to a libretto by the composer

Between the passionate romance of Die Walküre and the jet-black drama of Götterdämmerung, Siegfried is a refreshing fairy tale about dragons, talking birds and a sleeping beauty who must be awakened with a kiss. In this, the third part of the successful Ring cycle by the Nationale Reisopera, Siegfried is central. The son of Siegmund and Sieglinde is brought up by the dwarf Mime. With the sword that he managed to forge together, Siegfried sets off into the wide world – in search of the Ring, obstructed by The Wanderer and eventually ensnared by love.

Conductor Ed Spanjaard and director Antony McDonald continue their extremely successful Ring cycle, once more with orchestral support from the Orchestra of the East.
